Currently there is a very useful Cango bus service Nos. C41 & C42 now operated by Stagecoach that crosses the path and visits many of our villages on its route between Basingstoke and Alresford.

It operates Monday to Saturday and accepts holders of the National Bus Pass. Cango now runs to a set route and most of the route is ‘hail and ride’ where safe to do so – so you don’t even have to walk to a bus stop.

We would like to encourage use of this valuable public service to what is quite a remote area. It’s also ideal for those doing circular walks.

Once walkers reach the Itchen Valley, bus service No.67 currently runs through Itchen Abbas from Alresford to Winchester.

Hampshire County Council publish an excellent map of bus routes with good connections to Reading, Basingstoke and Fleet, together with bus frequencies. The Three Castles Path route is indicated - with a series of footprints!

The Three Castles Path has especially good rail connections to the start and to the finish at Winchester with intermediate stations at Ascot and Winchfield (almost half-way) that all offer frequent services to London and the south-east.

N.B. Bus service No. 82 through Eversley Cross
to/from Reading, no longer operates
